KCC’s four match unbeaten record was brought to a halt this afternoon by modest side Maroons FC who beat them 2-1 in the Bell Lager Uganda Super League at Mandela stadium.
Brian Majwega, scored his first goal of the season eleven minutes into a pulsating game to give his side early momentum in this game that had the two sides squander several chances. Maroons levelled matters 56 minutes into the game through their skipper Martin Mpuga with a glaring header that KCC’s defenders failed to deal with off a set piece then George Abege, drove the final nail in the coffin with a clinical finish by placing a low shot in the right hand corner of the net to secure all the three precious points in the 81 minute.
“We should have not conceded a goal to KCC and it was in the mindset of the players that made them concede that goal,” Asaph Mwebaze, the Maroons coach said after the game. “They had this in their heads that they where playing a great side like KCC, but after the break I told them to get it out of their mind and concentrate and they came back a better side to do what I had just told them.”
It was care-taker coach Morley Byekwaso’s first defeat in four games since taking over from suspended Matia Lule which had seen his side go 360 minutes without conceding a goal and also keeping four clean sheets. KCC’s impressive record at the backline has been mastered by veteran defender and skipper Richard Malinga and Rwanda’s Omar Hitimana.
The Yellow boys drop to sixth position with 16 points while Maroons moves one step up to fifth with 19 points.
