Uganda Liverpool Supporters Club together with the club’s official sponsors Standard Chartered Bank launched their fans club on February 26 at a colourful ceremony held at Planet Sports Pub at Naalya during the finals of the Carling Cup.

The supporters  together with, Standard Chartered Bank organized a match viewing party that attracted over 300 Liverpool fans . The event which was also attended by staff and clients of the Bank who are Liverpool fans also marked the official  launch of the ‘Uganda Liverpool Supporters Club’.

Jubilant fans flocked the venue to register and become official members of the Uganda Liverpool supporters club before proceeding to watch the Carling Cup Final in an electrified environment. Part of the event for the evening that kicked off at 5pm also included a quiz which saw lucky fans win Liverpool jerseys.

While delivering his remarks, the Managing Director, Standard Chartered Bank, Lamin Manjang thanked the fans for turning up in big numbers for the event, for their unwavering support to the club, their enthusiasm and loyalty.

He told the fans that Standard Chartered Bank was proud of the Liverpool sponsorship and was proud to make the association with the local fans club. He also reminded the fans of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda’s 100 years of existence in Uganda this year and the Bank’s continued commitment to this market.

On his part, the Chairman of the Uganda Liverpool Supporters Club,  Aldrine Nsubuga welcomed the fans and thanked them for turning up in big numbers and urged them to continue with the spirit of supporting the club. “The interim executive committee has done a great job so far and with your continued support, we pledge to endeavor to meet your expectations until a new executive is elected as per the new club constitution,” he said. Nsubuga assured the fans that the process of registering the club and affiliating it with Liverpool FC in England is in earnest. “Our activities will be managed and conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Liverpool international supporters club,”  he added, while thanking  the fans for their solidarity.

Being the official sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank partnered with the ‘Uganda Liverpool Supporters Club in this celebration to harness the relationship with the fans, to profile the Liverpool sponsorship and to create awareness about the sponsorship locally.

This was the first time such an event was held in Uganda and was also the first opportunity at which the Bank showcased its ‘100 Years of existence in Uganda’.

So far the Uganda Liverpool Supporters club has over 500 registered members and the club has commenced official registration with the parent Liverpool FC fans club. Member registration in all districts of the country has now begun as the fans club aims at achieving 1500 registered members before the end of the current season.

The fans club also launched an official face book page “LFC Uganda Supporters Club” and will soon launch a fans club website. The club will also open up an official contact office and a permanent venue (club house) where Liverpool fans will be watching all club matches.
