Maroons FC have stormed the semi-finals of the Bell Uganda Cup for the first time since 1980 after beating regional side Kireka Utd this evening at KCC Sports Arena, Lugogo. The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and the Prison side converted three penalties to Kireka’s
none to advance to the semi-finals.
Midfielder Maxwell Okello had given Asaph Mwebaze’s side a half time lead in the 26th minute before subsititute Kibirango Hamid equalized for the hosts on the hour mark from the spot after right back Rukundo was judged to have fouled Kireka’s danger man Ismael.
After the equalizer, both teams created lots of chances but couldn’t put any away. On to the penalties, Kireka Utd hit two of theirs on the wood work while one was saved by Custodian Emma Akol. Maroons managed to put three away. Kireka Utd is coached by former Masaka LC and KCC FC skipper Mubiru Sam.
Maroons will meet the winner between Bunamwaya sc and Police FC. At Masaka Recreation ground, the hosts ousted Waters FC after winning 3-2 on penalties. The entire 90 minutes ended goal less. Masaka LC now awaits the winner between URA FC and SC.Villa in a two legged semi-finals.
