
Hardwork and consistency have paid off for Uganda’s top badminton player Edwin Ekiring as he has booked his place on the Ugandan national team that will be taking part in this year’s London 2012 Olympics.
“I have qualified for the Olympics and am extremely excited about achieving this feat,” Ekiring revealed to Kawowo sports. “I am the only one in the men’s singles that has qualified.”
The All Africa games badminton silver medallist has been on the verge of qualifying for the games, but his consistency has paid up with Confederation Of African Badminton writing to him to confirm his slot to the games due in Summer in London.
Ekiring has risen to number 97 in the world the highest ranking for him that is he has moved to slots up the ranking.
The ace badminton star has been training with the Irish Badminton team in Dublin as he seeks to take part in various international tournaments on the circuit.
He becomes the second athlete from Uganda to qualify for the games the being weightlifter Charles Sekyaya.
