Badminton players country-wide have set their eyes for accolades at the 17th edition of the Picfare Badminton championships slated to swing for June 15-17 at the MTN Arena at Lugogo stadium.

The tournament which is one of the major events on the Uganda Badminton Association calendar is expected to draw close to 200 participants from various schools around Wakiso and Kampala districts as they battle for major honours in the age categories of U-10,U-13,U-15,U-16,U-17 and U-19 in girls and boys events.

“This year’s edition is going to be bigger than last year and the prizes are good for the participants who will walk away with cash prizes and picfare hampers with scholastic materials,” Simon Mugabi, the tournament director told the press at the launch this morning at Uganda House. “We are glad to have been with Picfare for this long and this shows that we have developed the sport further due to this good partnership with our sponsors.”

“We are look at higher categories in the year’s to come so that is to have universities taking part,” Deepak Chadha, the general manager of Picfare Industries said. “We are happy with the commitment by UBA and the way they have handled their affairs and that shows you how committed in sponsoring the tournament every year.”

This year Daniel Mihigo and Brenda Awori, will have to battle to retain their respective crowns in the boys and girls titles.
