Edward Mukasa defied odds to qualify for his maiden Nile Special National Pool regional qualifiers in Rubaga when he defeated Meddie Kalanzi 4-1. A game that was expected to be a walk over in favor of Kalanzi after he saw off Sadat Kyangulanyi in the semis, 3-0.
Mukasa was never to be shaken by kalanzi’s form enroot to the finals, which saw both players qualify for the national finals in August. Mukasa showcased class and confidence when he went onto win three straight sets. With only asset away before he could be declared winner Kalanzi pulled one back.
That never diverted Mukasa’s ambitions as Kalanzi childishly failed to put way his seventh ball with the black at his mercy, Mukasa did the honors unperturbedly. “I came knowing that I was going to win because I invested time training ahead of the qualifiers,” the Kiyembe Pool Club player bragged.
Kiyembe pool club is a new club that plays in the second division and it was his first major tournament in his four year career. Mukasa looks at winning the finals in Lugogo though seed one Sual Matovu gives him sleepless night.
“He (Matovu) is the one am conscious about especially that he is part of the seeded players, but am going to double my efforts to win the finals,” So far 32 players have qualified for the August 25 grand finale as the qualifiers head to western Uganda this weekend.
In another development the league took a two to three week break after the weekend games, where Skin Samona are in the driving seat.
