To many Ugandans, being knocked out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals by champions Zambia is like pouring cold water on the national’s future. Not FUFA, especially that Uganda will be hosting the 36th edition of the Confederation of the East and Central Football Association senior challenge cup (CECAFA).

“Failing to qualify for AFCON doesn’t mean we can’t qualify for the World Cup,” said Livingstone Kyambadde, Fufa vice president in charge of technical matters. Just as it has been the case in the past, professional players will be combined with their local counterparts.

“We are going to use both professionals and local based players as a way of preparing them for the world cup qualifiers,” Kyambadde added. After getting, a sign of relief that he will remain Cranes coach, Bobby Williamson also revealed that he will plan for future engagements depending on what the federation thinks is right.

“That will depend on the federation if they want to win CECAFA or use it to develop players for future engagements,” Bobby said. The 2012 edition starts on November 24 and will go until  December 12, four months to Cranes’ away World Cup qualifier against Senegal.
