Tusker Premier League giants Gor Mahia and Tusker FC are set to face off in a potential title decider, with talk in Kenyan football circles suggesting the match could be staged at Nyayo National Stadium.
However, Gor Mahia vice-chairman Faiz Ochieng insists his second-placed team will not, as hosts, accept the tie being moved away from the Nairobi City Stadium.
“We have just heard that there are plans to take our
game against Tusker to the Nyayo National Stadium, despite the fact that we have not been consulted on it so far,” said Ochieng.
“I want to categorically state that we will not take any shift of venues. Our home ground is City Stadium, we are the home team and our fans too, want it at City.”
“We will not be arm-twisted by anyone on this – be it Tusker or the KPL. City Stadium is registered as our home ground and we are not even willing to consider Kasarani or anywhere else. We know this is a ploy to destabilise our league run.”
Gor are second in the league standings with 52 points – two behind pace-setting Tusker. The crunch encounter is scheduled for Sunday.
