Ugandan striker Daniel Sserunkuma netted his 14 th goal of the season to help his side Gor Mahia beat opponents Tusker in a league game at the City Stadium on Sunday. The lone goal moved Mahia closer to winning their first league title since 1995. Gor went top of the log on 55 points, one ahead of Tusker (54) while AFC Leopards are third on goal difference.
The victory extended Mahia’s winning streak to seven games and is the latest chapter of an incredible turn around for Mighty K’Ogalo who have staged a relentless march up the log gaining momentum and are unbeaten since April. It was Tusker’s first loss since coach Robert Matano took over and they will now hope for a favour from other teams if they are to become the first team to defend the crown since Ulinzi Stars back in 2005.
With Gor and Tusker neck and neck in the fight for the 2012 title, anticipation for the clash was huge in the Kenyan capital with thousands of fans filling City Stadium to the brim with 12,000 fans all clad in the green and white colours of the Green Army. Allegations all over the media that Gor Mahia’s players had not been paid for two months now were silenced with the victory.
