Muhoroni Youth 0-4 Gor Mahia

Tusker FC 2-0 Western Stima

Daniel Sserunkuma fired a hat trick to condemn Muhoroni Youth FC to a 4-0 defeat and help Gor Mahia FC reclaim top spot in the Kenyan Premier League.

In a match played at City Stadium, the Ugandan export took just 45 seconds to get on the score sheet after he latched on a cross from Ali Bondo to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Five minutes later, the former Express FC and Victors FC forward forced Muhoroni custodian Joseck Gathongo into a fine save on a one on one situation. He should have added a second in the 13th minute but Gathongo was again up to the task.

Sserunkuma had to patiently wait for his second of the game until the 26th minute after he unleashed a cracker of a shot that hit the back of the net to make it 2-0 for Logarusic side. The goal is set to be a serious contender for the goal of the season.

After recess, Christopher Wekesa headed home Moses Odhiambo’s cross to put the score line beyond Muhoroni’s reach before Sserunkuma netted his third and Gor’s fourth in the 84th minute.

The goal was Sserunkuma’s 17th league goal of the season and he is now tied with Kenyan International John Baraza as joint leading scorers of the Tusker Premier League. Amazingly, 11 Sserunkuma’s goals have come in the second round of the season after moving to Gor Mahia from Nairobi City Stars in the June window.

The wins lifts Gor Mahia back on top of the 16 team log with 58 points just one above of second placed Tusker FC and AFC Leopards which are separated by goals.

K’ogalo just needs to pick maximum points against Thika United in their last game of the season to be crowned Champions of Kenya for the first time since 1995.

In the other game, defending champions Tusker FC beat Western Stima 2-0 to keep their slim hopes of reclaim their title alive. Obadia Ndege scored both goals for a side whose destiny is away from their hands as it prays that both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards lose their last games of the season.
