Uganda Cranes will be without defenders Joseph Owino and Edward Ssali for this year’s Tusker Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup after the duo has been ruled out due to fitness levels and injury respectively.
Owino who plies his trade with Vodacom premier league club Azam FC has been dropped citing low fitness levels following his recent recovery from an injury. The highly rated defender has had to endure an injury ravaged two years with his last appearance for the Uganda Cranes coming in 2010 while Edward Ssali has failed to recover from a harm string injury sustained two weeks ago while on club duty.
This has forced Coach Bobby Williamson to summon Hassan Wasswa to beef up his squad that he wants to defend the crown they won last year in Dar es Salam after beating Rwanda 3-2 on spot kicks after a 2 all draw in the 120 minutes.
On the other hand, Vietnam based midfielder Chrizestom Ntambi has also been left out after he requested for omission from the squad in order to sort some transfer issues with his club.
Similarly, URA FC midfielder Moses Feni Ali may miss the tournament after he reportedly left for professional trials in Vietnam. However, there is no formal communication on whether he will miss the competition or not. This has prompted the technical committee to summon URA FC and Hippos gifted midfielder Said Kyeyune to fill the void.
Meanwhile, the Cranes are set to start residential training on Saturday 17th and will be residing at Rivona Suites in Mbuya. The CECAFA tournament will be held between November 24th and December 8th at Nakivubo and Namboole stadiums.
