The number of participants at this year’s MTN Kampala marathon might have been less by a little fraction,but the need for raising funds for the people of Bududa district was higher with the sponsors recording a record of close to 300 million in this year’s event.
‘We have collected over 300 million shillings this year together with our partner Red Cross and we shall ensure the monies reach them deserved people of Bududa,” Ernst Fonternel MTN Chief Marketing officer said in a written statement.
‘This year’s theme ‘Run with your Heart ” was certainly befitting as the proceeds will be used to take clean and safe water to the people of the the beneficiary district.”
Last year’s marathon raised 230 million for the district of Amuria District for clean and safe water which was recently commissioned in Willa Sub County in Amuria.
This year’s edition attracted 18,285 runners that came together for one of the biggest sporting and social event in Uganda.
The runners included 150 corporate teams that entered the Corporate Challenge in the quest to be the best. Kenyan athletes swept the men’s marathon with Domenic Kangor Kimwetich, David Tarus Kiptui and Gilbert Masai finishing first,second and third respectively.
While the women’s winner was Uganda’s Immaculate Chemutai.
