Uganda was confirmed to be the host of this year’s ICC Africa U-19 Girls Cricket Championship slated for December 7-10. “We are excited about getting the opportunity to host this event,” said Uganda Cricket Association CEO Justin Ligyalingi.
The hosts will start the search for their maiden crown with two fixtures against Botswana and Kenya on December 8 at Lugogo and Kyambogo Oval respectively. Grace Mutyagaba, fresh from Nairobi were he led Uganda’s senior ladies to a 4-2 series win over Kenya, will coach the U-19 girls.
The team is composed of secondary school girls who were selected from this year’s Pepsi Girls’ Schools’ Cricket Week. “There is a lot to learn and we hope to do well for our country,” Mercy Lakisa, a Gayaza High School student who was selected to the team, told Kawowo Sports.
