Uganda Cranes skipper Andrew Mwesigwa is confident the hosts will overcome Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars in the semi-finals of the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Cup when the two sides on Thursday evening at Mandela national stadium, Namboole.
Mwesigwa who was not summoned to the team to give room to youngsters told Kawowo Sports in an exclusive interview that Uganda holds an edge over Tanzania.
“We are a good team”, he said. “I guess the best team in the region and am confident the boys will go past Tanzania”.
The two sides will be meeting for a third time in a row at this stage in the competition having met in 2010 and 2011. Tanzania beat Uganda 5-4 on penalties in 2010 while Uganda won last year’s tie 3-2 in normal time.
Asked who holds the psychological edge in this meeting, Mwesigwa still felt Uganda does.
“We beat them 3-2 last year in their own back yard and now we are at home. We are going to win them easily”, he concluded.
