The Uganda Cup is famed for surprises and action packed scintillating football. Teams across the country from various Divisions participate and as they play their hearts out, many merely to preserve pride and others to seriously compete for top honors at stake.

As the 39th Edition of the Uganda Cup kicked off a fortnight ago minus a title sponsor, many pundits predicted a slow and dull tourney. Perhaps, the spirited level of competitiveness exhibited by the teams has raised the hype and tempo for Uganda’s most prestigious and Oldest football tournament.

The tourney’s Defending Champions, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) were given a run of their money by non league side, Azam as they struggled to win with a narrow away 2-3 victory in Bweyoegerere.

Victoria University was pressed to the wall by Big League outfit, Nkumba University, only to escape with a 3-5 post match penalties win, following a barren draw after 90 minutes in Entebbe.

The Major shock thus far from  the 2013 Edition has been the elimination of the Jinja based FUFA Big league Side, Victors by Kampala regional side, KJT in the round of 64.KJT eliminated Victors with a 3-4 away success in post match penalties as the regulation time had ended 1 all.

As the Round of 64 concludes with two fixtures this Wednesday when Aurum Roses entertain Bugembe United at Kavumba and Mutudwe hosting UTODA at Kaala, Natete, focus will shift directly to the upcoming games in the next Round.

Some of the biggest games to be played in Round 32 will involve last year’s Uganda Cup defending Champions, URA hosting Express at the Mehta Stadium in Lugazi on Tuesday, 19th March, Entebbe F.C hosting SC Villa at Nakivubo , Jinja Municipal Football Club and Vipers at Kakindu Stadium and the Bombo Derby of Simba F.C playing host to Bombo United at Bombo Army Stadium, among other games.

Meanwhile, the FUFA Big league resumes this Wednesday with one fixture on the menu as Third placed Rwenzori group team, Soana hosts Mvara Boys at Kavumba Recreational Stadium in Wakiso. The match will kick off at 4:30 p.m.
