Mbarara 1-5 Nkumba
Nkumba cruised to a 5-1 victory against a woeful Mbarara with help from a Faizal Muwawu brace. Nkumba gave KIU plenty to think about ahead of their crucial match as they thrashed MUST 5-1 at their own grounds in Mbarara. Nkumba began in typically dominant style, but despite their monopolisation of possession, it took them 13 minutes to find the opener. Dan Nsubuga slotted Nkumba into the lead.

MUST had done well to hold on until that point, and they appeared to hold little hope of cancelling out the opener – just a few minutes later Nicholas Lubowa made it two for the Entebbe based University.

After the break, Nkumba continued to dominate and press, and team captain Yasser Mugerwa made it three when he picked the ball up on the edge of the area and smashed home at the near post. MUST pulled one back immediately afterwards as Siraje Misindo collected a long pass and slotted underneath Ronald Mutebi.

Nkumba, however, not to be outdone, restored the gloss to the scoreline with another screamer from Faizal Muwawu, collecting a loose ball in the area before stepping inside the MUST defence and lashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 12 yards out. Muwawu completed his double in the 90th minute with a penalty making it 5 up for the beach boys.

“The important thing was to get through the match it was not easy.” Yasser Mugerwa said. “We came out the same way as always and we achieved our goal.” On Wednesday Kampala International University visit Nkumba.
