11 districts have confirmed participation as the 8th edition of the Kyabazinga Track and Field Athletics Championships gets underway on June 8, 2013 in Jinja.

At the same meet, different athletes will battle for qualification  for the World Youth championships in Ukraine and World Championships in Moscow due this year in July and August respectively.

Expected contestants for the Kyabazinga crown include eleven (11) districts of Kamuli, Iganga, Mayuge, Bugiri, Namutumba, Jinja, Iganga , Kaliro, Namayingo, Luuka and Buyende while clubs will comprise Town View SS, King of Kings, Kakira Sugar Works, Jinja Nursing School , Jinja SS, Bugembe Youth, Kakira Estates, Mwiri College, Wanyange Girls, Holy Cross Lake View  SS, St.John Wakitaka and Jinja Youth among others

The Busoga championship will be the 2nd  regional track and field event this year after Central region hosting its respective competitions last weekend in Kampala.. The Uganda Athletics Federation’s calendar boasts of  series of six regional track and field competitions where the regions namely, Busoga, Northern, Eastern, Western, West Nile and Central independently organize their respective events.    

The Busoga Athletics Association, the organizers of the annual Kyabazinga Championships expect over 50 teams representing clubs, districts, schools for the one-day action in Jinja’s Bugembe Stadium. The event is also open to teams from the rest of the country.
The competition recognized by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has won acclaim as one of the best organized event and has been granted national status to host national and Uganda’s elite (international stars) athletes from all over the country.

The Kyabazinga Championship is meant to assist the region tap talent and offer competition and national exposure to districts, schools, universities and clubs located in Busoga and also taking athletics nearer to the grassroots.
