Liberia skipper Anthony Laffor insists his side is not out of contention for a World Cup slot come next year despite suffering defeat at the hands of Uganda Cranes. The Cranes beat the Lone Stars 1-0 at Namboole on Saturday afternoon thanks to a fifth minute strike from midfielder Tony Mawejje to leave the visitors bottom of the group J table but Laffor remains optimistic.

“Even if we didn’t win today, we can still qualify for the World Cup in Brazil”, he told Kawowo Sports. “We have two games left and if we play well and win them, we are through to the next round”, he added.
With Angola drawing one all with Senegal in the other group game, the group becomes tighter with all the four nations having an opportunity to top it and advance to the final round.
Senegal maintained its spot at the top with six points followed by Uganda (5) and Angola (4) in the second and third respectively while bottom placed Liberia is just two points below the leaders. Liberia hosts Senegal in their next game next weekend.
