Bobby Williamson’s Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the Kenya Premier League standings after beating Karuturi Sports 2-1 in an entertaining game played at City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kevin Omondi opened the scoring for K’Ogalo in the 17th minute before ex-Utoda FC striker Zzinda Hussein equalized for the flower men five minutes to the break.

However, Cranes defender Israel Emuge grabbed the winner in the 71st minute with his first goal for the club since joining from Kiira Young FC to ensure his side garnered maximum points. Gor now leads the standings with 35 points seven points ahead of second placed Thika United who lost 4-0 to Western Stima on Sunday.

Daniel Sserunkuma still made no appearance in the game though he made the substitutes bench.

In the other game of the day, reigning Champions Tusker FC arrested the bad run with a 1-0 win over Kakamega Boys. Harambee Stars’ midfielder Victor Ochieng scored the only goal of the game in the 7th minute. Ugandans Robert Omunuk and Aucho Khalid started for the Brewers while Martin Kizza was an un used substitute. Tusker moved to 7th on the 16 team log with 24 points. 

In other games played on Saturday, Ulinzi shocked City Stars at their own backyard with a 1-0 victory while Muhoroni were 1-0 winners away to Sony Sugars.

On July 28, early pace setters KCB needed a late equalizer to snatch point from Mathare United with a 2-2 score line. Tyrus Omondi and John Odhiambo netted for the Bankers while Francis Ouma and Kenneth Owendo scored for Mathare United. In other Sunday matches, AFC Leopards completed a double over Sofapaka thanks to Peter Opiyo’s lone goal that saw Ingwe move to 3rd spot, Chemelil Sugar downed Bandari 2-0 while Western Stima stunned Thika United with a 3-0 defeat.
