Charleston Battery Midfielder, Mike Azira is among the 30 Summoned Uganda Cranes players for the up coming 2014 world Cup fixture against West African giants, Senegal.

The man squad has been announced by Cranes Head Coach on Saturday morning during a special press conference at which the Serbian born tactician announced his strategic plan towards ensuring Uganda’s qualification to the next phase of the 2014 world cup that he code named ‘Operation Senegal‘.

The former Sports Club Villa player is the latest new face on the Cranes team that is also set to travel to the Botswana capital of Gaborone for an international build up match against the world’s 101 ranked nation on the current FIFA coca cola rankings, on 31st August.

Mike Azira was an inspirational pillar in the Villa team before he left for the US 6 years ago. He recently scored during his team’s 2-0 home win against Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the 3300 Blackbaud stadium.

Azira joins Joseph Kabagambe (El Merrick) and Polish based Vincent Kayizzi (The latter was of recent seen playing the Bika Bya Baganda football tourney and his form was promising).4 goalies including one home based (Vipers’ Hamuza Muwonge) have made the cut to the list.

Forward, Geofrey Massa, who is yet to feature for his new South African side, University of Pretoria is on the team. Micho has also summoned two players who have been on trial stints with different sides. Joseph Ochaya has been in Germany, while Dan Sserunkuma has been in Lebanon.

The Cranes prepare to face Senegal at a neutral venue in Morocco come 7th September 2013. Senegal drew 1 all a in recent friendly game against Former African giants, Zambia in July. The match was held at Stade Saint Leu Stadium in Paris, France.
