Senegal Vs Uganda – Marrakesh, Morocco
US based midfielder Mike Azira who plies his trade with USL Pro side Charleston Battery finally linked up with the Uganda Cranes squad currently camped in Istanbul, Turkey.
The ex-SC Villa captain was meant to join camp on Monday but was unable to fly from US after cancellation of his flight due to a reported plane mechanical problem.
On arrival at the World of Wonders hotel where the Cranes are accommodated, Azira vowed to offer 100% effort if chosen on Saturday against Senegal.
“I am happy that finally I am here with the team”, he said on arrival. “I am ready to give the team 100% if the coach picks me on Saturday”, he added.
Azira joined USL Pro compatriot Henry Kalungi (Richmond Kickers) who jetted in Monday evening. Other arrivals today include midfielder Tony Mawejje (IBV, Iceland), St. George duo of Robert Ssentongo and Isaac Isinde plus AIK attacking midfielder Martin Mutumba.
Skipper Andrew Mwesigwa and Portugal based midfielder William Luwagga are expected in camp later this evening.
Meanwhile, the team conducted its first training session Monday night at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
Uganda Cranes face Senegal’s Lions of Teranga on Saturday September 7 at Marrakesh Stadium, Morocco in the final group J game.
The Cranes lie second on the log with 8 points just one behind leaders Senegal and must beat Senegal to top group.
