Ethiopia 1-2 Nigeria

Fernerbahce striker Emmanuel Emenike scored a brace to sink hard fighting Ethiopia in the first leg of the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers tie played in Addis Ababba on Sunday evening.

The African Champions however had to come from a goal down after Behailu Asefa had given the Walya Antelopes a deserved lead in the 57th minute. Following a barren first half that saw the home team dominate proceedings, they opened the deadlock twelve minutes after restart.

However, the African champions fought back and drew level ten minutes later through the individual brilliance of Emenike who took on the entire Ethiopia defence before firing past the goalkeeper.

From then on, the visitors hit top gear and would have gotten a second in the 77th minute but Ahmed Musa failed to find the back of the net following a brilliant through pass from Mikel Obi. With less than sixty seconds to full time, Emenike was fouled inside the 18 yard area by defender Aynalem Haile and the Fernerbahce front man dusted himself to tuck away the resulting penalty.

Nigeria will now host the return leg on November 16 in Calabar aiming at avoiding defeat of a two goal margin to qualify for Brazil 2014.
