Africa’s finest Universities will be gearing up for the third Africa University Cross Country Championship due on December 1 at Entebbe Golf Course.

“We are expecting a huge turn-up for this international event that has attracted 10 Universities from Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, DR Congo, Tanzania and many more,” National University Sports Federation of Uganda president Peninah Kabenge said at a press conference at Uganda Olympic Committee yesterday. “It will give us an opportunity to show case Uganda, but at the same time we shall use the event to select a team for the World University Cross Country Championship next year.”

The Africa event is currently being supervised by Uganda Athletics Federation who will also be hosting the forthcoming cross country championships to be held in Uganda; on March 22 2014 at Kololo Airstrip.

“It’s a perfect springboard for the federation ahead of this next year’s event which we will be hosting,” Dominic Otucet, the Uganda Athletics Federation President said. “We are going to get the finest athletes participating in the Africa Cross Country Championship the preparations are already in full gear.”

Uganda will enter a senior men’s and junior team and also a senior and junior women’s team.
