Referee Sam Kakembo narrowly survived the wrath of rowdy Express football club supporters who attacked him accusing him of biased officiation during the team’s home 1 all draw against Police football club at a FUFA super league encounter played at Wankulukuku Stadium on Tuesday.
Police officers at the match quickly intervened to save the situation after angry Express football club fans followed up the referee, together with the match officials at the half time of the game as they headed to the stadium dressing rooms.
By that time, the home team had fallen to a 45th minute Umar Kasumba strike after goalie, Kansole Ssonko had made a howler when the ball spilled off his hands following a feeble Andrew Basooma laid in ball from the right.
Kakembo was escorted back by uniformed officers and the second half of the resumed. Express, spearheaded by Allan Kyambadde and Willy Kavuma attacked in numbers throughout the half and one of their efforts were rewarded as a controversial penalty decision was ruled in favour after one of their raids.
Police skipper, Francis Kawoya was judged by the referee to have handled the ball in the forbidden area and captain, Willy Kavuma made no mistake with just three minutes to the end of the game.
Police coach, Angleo Loneysi called off his entire in protest and it took the intervention of a concerned club official to convince the players resume play.
“I was cooling off my boys. Conceding a quick second goal was the next thing in line. Referees have continued to frustrate teams and i don’t know why”, Lonyesi spoke to Kawowo Sports of his decision.
In the other game played at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kira Young condemned Proline to their second consecutive loss of the second round, following a 2 – 0 victory.
Samuel Kayongo put Kira Young ahead before Patrick Kaddu guaranteed surety of the game.
The league will take a 7 day’s break to allow KCC and Victoria university ample preparations for their CAF Champions and confederations’ cup return legs against El Merrick and CS Don Bosco respectively.
