Bamburi Rugby Super Series Match Day 2 results

Papa 8 Kifaru 6

Ndovu 40 Victoria 6

A Saturday at Kakamega in Kenya presented the biggest road bump Victoria Protectors have hit on the quest for a Bamburi rugby semi final slot from group A.

Defending champions Ndovu who proved their worth in the series debut, were not far from a vintage display at Victoria, comprehensively thumping the Ugandan franchise 40-6.

Nick Lango, Kelvin Omiyo’s early first half efforts virtually opened the flood gates for the home side, Martin Mutia’s conversion making a 12-0 lead score.

Calvin Otieno, Edwin Okwemwa, Javan Murayi and Elkins Musonye all burrowed over into half time, as Martin Muita converted for a 40-nil advantage.

Victoria’s two good penalties by Allan Omoding reduced the deficit and took the sting out of Ndovu’s efforts after the break, but the hosts’ point had been made long before.

Eventually, Victoria Protectors confirmed their tournament exit after losing both group encounters, match day 2 winners Ndovu proceeding with another against Chui in Nakuru on May 24th.

Earlier, Papa Nguvu who beat Allan Musoke’s Rwenzori franchise at Kyadondo, edged Kenyan Universities’ UAP Kifaru 8-6.

Kifaru’s dominance resulted the second 2014 Bamburi rugby drop goal, Harun Lusibia making the 3-nil lead after four minutes of play.

Micheal Wanjala later replied to level the matters midway the second half, before Kevin Waithaka’s indiscipline reduced Papa to 14 men.

George Mutuku had Kifaru back in the lead with a fine penalty, but Bush Mwale crossed in the crucial time, Papa advancing to the semi final at a full time score, Papa 8 Kifaru 6.

The Super Series takes a two week break to pave way for Kenya Cup Semis and finals on May 10th and 17th, resuming on 24th May in Nakuru.
