Entebbe based Kenyan Nelson Mukuriah was the last man standing from the 122 players at the seventh edition of the Captain’s Putter that was held at par 71, Entebbe club over the weekend.

The handicap 26 golfer returned at the 19th hole on the green to claim his maiden win at the oldest golf club in East Africa in a tournament that had several golfers collapsing on the very unpredictable course.

Last year’s winner Elly Mukasa, failed in his attempt to claim back to back titles succumbing on the 18th hole to end his run in this extremely popular and competitive tournament that was sponsored by MSL Logistics.

National golfer and scratch Robert Oluba was the overall winner in group A topping up with his 19th hole on the tee shot.

The Captain’s putter is held annual at Entebbe club and is organized by the Captain of the club Oscar Semawere, with he deciding the format of Tombstone, which he has used in the previous tournament last year.

Michael Tumusiime, handicap 16 was group B winner with his 18th hole in the hole. Handicap 20 Nziza Rurangirwa, registered a similar score with his 18th in the hole to claim the crown in Group C.

The one day event had club captain’s from Uganda Golf Club, Mbarara club, Jinja club, Mbarara club, Kilembe Mines Golf Club, Kasese, Namulonge golf club, Palm Valley Golf and Country Club taking part in this club event.

National lady golfer Eva Magala who plays off handicap 5 was the ladies group A winner with 8 on the 17th hole to wrap her first event at Entebbe club.

Group B was taken by Rose Mary Kioni, playing off handicap 28 with her second shot on the 18th hole to wrap up the ladies section.

The one day tournament was sponsored by MSL Logistics, African Airways Express and members of Entebbe Club.
