Uganda’s team of three lady golfers and one official are confident off returning with good scores when the All Africa Challenge Trophy swings into action on June 11-13 at Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi, Kenya.
UPDF’s Flavia Namakula, will spear head Uganda’s quest at the prestigious continental all ladies team tournament, others on the team include lady captain at the Uganda Golf Club Kathy Kabenge who will be making her debut together with Harriet Kitaka, the team will be managed by Uganda Ladies Golf Union president Esther Okullo while Monica Ntege, travels with the team as trustee for East and Central region.
“I have high hopes in this team and believe with the training that we have been going through I believe we shall return with perfect results,” Okullo said at the team’s sendoff recently at the Uganda Golf Club. “We want to good to the tournament and play well and hope that we can finish in a good position”
South Africa are the defending champions and will be the team to beat, but the other notable nations that will be seeking to stop the South Africans include Egypt, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and the hosts Kenya.
Uganda finished 8th out of 19 in their last outing at the AACT at the Phalakane Golf Estate in Bostwana in 2012.
The team is sponsored by AON Insurance, Air Uganda, Uganda Tourism Board, and several other sponsors including the golf fraternity.
The mode of play is match play with best scores of the top three golfers of each team.
The Uganda team will also have a team of 14 lady golfers who will be supporting and who will later play in the Kenya Ladies Open golf championship that will proceed after the ACCT tournament.
