Group F fixtures: Nigeria Vs Iran – Arena da Baixada, Curitiba – 10.00PM
African Champions Nigeria kick start their 2014 World Cup campaign on Monday 16 against Iran in a game to be played at the Arena da Baixada, Curitiba. Stephen Keshi’s men come into the game on the back of eight win-less World Cup games and face a side that equally has a poor record having won just once in nine games.
The Nigerians; scorers of the fewest goals amongst all teams in Brazil face a relatively hard task of breaking down Carlos Quiroz’s men that conceded the least goals in qualifiers.
The two sides have previously met once with Nigerians running out winners in a friendly played in 1998 thanks to Ahmed Garcia’s lone goal.
The African Kings will have hopes in strikers Victor Moses and Peter Odemwingie for goals while Ahmed Musa is another available option. Chelsea FC midfielder Jon Obi Mikel; usually played as a holding midfielder at the London club will be tasked with creative duties which he superbly executes for Nigeria.
It will be a game both sides need to win if they are to make it out of the group since Argentina 2-1 winners of Bosnia in the other group game seem tougher opponents.
