Uganda Professional Golfers Association boss Deo Akope, has renewed his sponsorship deal with his sponsors MTN Uganda for one year.
Akope renewed his sponsorship last week with the leading mobile phone company last week at their head office at MTN towers.
“We are delighted to be sponsoring Uganda’s leading golfer once again and also being involved in golf in the country,” Mazen Mroue, the chief executive officer of the company said at the signing ceremony. “Our sponsorship shows our effort to drive the game forward and we believe with players like Akope it will drive and motivate junior players to join the sport, but at the same time we hope this will develop the game at the grassroots.”
The sponsorship is worth $25,000(sh64.5million) and will see the Entebbe based professional golfer playing in the Rwanda Open in July, KCB Pro Series in Kenya, the Uganda Open in August, and Zimbabwe Open also in August, and the Mena Golf tour in the Middle East from September to November.
“I am really excited with this sponsorship and it’s not the first time that MTN has helped me and the Uganda Professional Golfers Association I strongly believe this will surely motivate me and help me be more successful on the course,” an excited Akope stated after putting pen to paper on his new contract. “MTN has never let us down and I together with UPGA are very grateful for their sponsorship.”
