England Vs Uruguay – Arena de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo @10.00pm

England and Uruguay face off in their second group game at Arena de Sao Paulo knowing that failure to pick maximum points may see either exit the 2014 World Cup finals at an early stage.

The Three Lions; winners on home soil in 1966 lost their opener to Italy 2-1 whilst Uruguay suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Costa Rica.

England Coach Roy Hodgson is expected to maintain a similar side that started against The Azzuri but Wyne Rooney may be moved to the centre in a number 10 role behind Daniel Sturridge with Raheem Sterling moving to the left.

Uruguay who won the title in Brazil in 1950 may have Liverpool striker Luis Suarez back in the team after missing the Costa Rica game through injury but have been dealt a blow with skipper Diego Lugano injured.
Right fullback Maximilliano Pereira is banned after receiving marching orders in the loss to Costa Rica.

The return of Suarez implies Oscar Tabarez may opt for a three man attack that has Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani too.

With Italy and Costa Rica who lead the group on 3 points not playing till Friday, the winner has an opportunity to close in.

The two nations have previously met twice at the World Cup: Uruguay won 4-2 in the 1954 quarter-finals and the two sides drew 0-0 in the group stage in 1966 but England won the most previous meeting 2-1 in 2006 in a match played at Anfield.
