Ghana Vs Portugal – Estadio Nacional, Brasilia @7.00pm
Germany Vs USA – Arena Pernambuco, Recife @7.00pm

African representatives Ghana face an uphill task against Portugal as they seek to qualify for the 2014 World Cup round of 16.

Kwesi Appiah’s charges must beat Portugal and pray that Germany beats USA in the other group G game match by the desired goals.

Ghana and Portugal sit third and fourth in the group with just a single point from two games whilst Germany and USA have four each thus all the four still harbor chances of progression.

The Africans will be without midfielder Sulley Muntari (suspension) but Michael Essien is expected to deputize after sitting out the 2-2 draw with Germany.

Portugal welcomes back defender Pepe from suspension but Helder Postiga and Hugo Almeida are doubtful with left back Fabio Coentraeo misses through injury.

All eyes will be on Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo who is yet to net in this campaign thus will be under pressure to deliver.

As for Ghana, Asamoah Gyan who needs just a goal to lead the goal scoring charts at the World Cup by any African is expected to lead the line for Ghana.

How Ghana or Portugal can progress
Portugal must beat Ghana and overturn a five-goal difference on the Americans to stand any chance of progress while Ghana will advance if they beat Portugal and Germany beat USA.

Nevertheless, should the US lose by one goal and Ghana win with the same score line then the US would go through by virtue of their better head-to-head record against the Black Stars. USA could also go through on goals scored if they are in a high scoring match.

Meanwhile, Ghana can also qualify at the expense of the Germans if United States record a large victory against Germany.

A draw between Germany and USA means both sides progress regardless of what result is achieved in the other game.
