Rwandan golfers Emmanuel Rutayisire and Jean Baptist Hakizimana had the last laugh winning the 2014 Rwanda Open at the par 72 Kigali Golf Club in Nyarutarama last weekend.
The two prized golfers held onto their nerves over the four days of action that ran under the theme; “Celebrating 20 years of Liberation”.
Rutayisire recorded 311 gross to take top spot beating a strong field of over 100 golfers.
He shocked former winners as he dethroned defending champion, Aphrodis Nyirinkwaya.
Hakizimana fired an amazing 292 (gross) to beat a crop of other regional golfers including Uganda’s Deo Akope.
Kenyans Dismas Indiza followed in the second position while there was a share for third place with the Kenyan trio of left hander, Richard Ainley,Simon Ngigi and Sullvian Muthugia (all tied on a gross score of 300).
“It’s a big achievement for me. It has given me much confidence ahead of the prestigious Tony Jacklin West Florida golf tour set for August to December in the US later this year,” Hakizimana revealed to the media
Uganda’s Deo Akope failed to make it into the final round as he missed the cut after the first two days.
