Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has today voted Uganda’s 800m runner Winnie Nannyondo as the Sports personality for the month of June.

The sports members voted during the monthly meeting held at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Nannyondo climbed up the International Association of Athletics Federation top ranking after winning the Ostrava diamond league.

She scooped 355 votes, 20 votes ahead of Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) who won the inaugural CECAFA Nile Basin cup in Sudan.

Uganda U-17 football team, the Cubs got 300 votes in the third place.

The Cubs eliminated their Seychelles counterparts to progress to next stage of qualification for the Africa Youth Championships in Niger next year.

Vision Volleyball Camp (VVC) were fourth in the pecking order. The ladies volleyball team made the list after scooping the Nkumba Volleyball open and finishing third at the Dr. Aporu Oporu International tournament in Kumi.

Nannyondo, who got an invitation to compete in the World’s leading Diamond League will recieve her award that also comes with Ug.shs 500,000 this Thursday at the Imperial Hotel.

Others commended were Lillian Zawedde (woodball), URA f.c, Nemostars Volleyball club and Darts player, Ronald Kaleete, who won the Narok Open in Kenya last month.

Nanyonndo is set take part in either the Athletissima diamond league in Lausanne on July 3, Meeting Areva Diamond league in Paris on July 5 or the British Grand Prix in Glasgow July 11.

Nannyondo is now the 5th fastest lady in the world in 2014.
