Eastern region will take full advantage of a home course to spearhead their chances at the Castle Lite Inter Region golf tournament that tees off tomorrow at the par 72 Jinja club.

Eastern region will be vying to win the Inter Region for the second time having won their first in 2011 however they will have to overcome Western who have dominated the prestigious team event tournament that they have won 16 times.

“The team is well and we are playing at home so we have to take full advantage of this and win it on our home turf,” Deo Akope, the coach for Eastern Region stated on phone. “The players know the course and I surely believe they will return with good results.”

Buganda will have also lined-up a formiable side that will be seeking it’s fourth crown. Buganda will be banking Joseph Mawejje, Gerald Kabuye, Henry Lujja, Peter Ssenduala, Sula Kisitu as they seek glory.

North Region will also be seeking for it’s maiden win in the annual tournament. The tournament is one of the premier events on the Uganda Golf Union calendar and it comes in the wake of the just concluded Eskom Open that was won by Ronald Otile.

“We have had enough preparations for the tournament and we are looking forward to retaining our crown,” George Bagambisa, the captain of Western Region said. “We have a  mixed team of stars and seniors so we expected to have a good tournament with these players.”

Eastern Region will bank on Becca Mwanja, others include Ronald Otim, Eddie Kasaija, Ashraf Bagalana, lady golfers Eva Magala, Rose Azuba, Samalie Naikomba, Petra Nalwoga just to mention a few.

Western region will field a team that is made up of Melon Kyomugisha, Davis Kato, Adolf Muhumuza and others. The tournament concludes on Saturday the mode of play is Medal Full Handicap.
