TORORO side True Vine last weekend qualified to represent the Elgon region in the national finals of City Tyres U14 Chenga Challenge after retaining the regional championship in the regional qualifiers played at Mbale Municipal stadium.

True Vine who represented Mbale region in the most recent national championships played in Mbarara, where they finished runners up beat thumped Soroti Eagles 5-0 in the finals to cement their position as the best of the region.

They now become the eighth regional champions joining teams from Gulu, Mbarara, Fort Portal, Arua, Masaka, Lugazi and Kabale that are preparing for the winners’ showdown in Masaka between 28th and 31 August to determine the national champion of the 14 edition.

Get Up FC custodian John Makumbi was voted best goal keeper whereas True Vine pair Brian Lugya (with 6 goals) and Kenneth Semakula walked away with the top scorer and MVP accolades respectively.

The best eleven players as selected by the organisers were; John Makumbi (Get Up FC- sironko), Musa Oteng –Pallisa,  Felix Hiriga – True Vine, Kenneth Semakula- True Vine, Bashir Ouma – Busia, Omondi Clifford – True Vine, Yasin Mukiibi – True Vine, Brian Lugya – True Vine, Godfrey Enabu – Soroti Eagles, Paul Malinga – Procity, Adoku Allion – Soroti Eagles.

Jinja will now host the last up country regional qualifiers on August 2nd before Kampala region wraps up the regional qualifiers on the 9th of August.
