National captain Phillip Kasozi, and Entebbe’s Robert “Escobar” Oluba, Peter Ssenduala, Henry Lujja made the cut to the national golf team that has been undergoing a two day qualifiers at the par 71 Entebbe club.
Oluba, was the overall winner of the two day qualifying round with scores of 70,72, and 77 to give him a total of 219 gross one better than Kasozi who had scores of 76, 71, 74 and a total of 221 gross to finish runner-up.
Toro’s Ronald Rugumayo was third with 75, 72, 74 and a total of 221. “This are the 12 players that have made it to the national team and we will not recall those that failed to make the cut,” Amos Kamya, the national golf team coach said. “We will have two other slots for the reserve players on the team and we will pick any player of our choice.”
The Uganda Open champion Peter Ssendaula, was fourth with scores of 79, 72, 73 and a total of 224 gross. Notable names that missed the cut include Abbey Bagalana and former national team golfer Patrick Mwaka.
Adolf Muhumuza, returned with 76, 77, 73 with a score of 226. The Uganda Golf Union used the qualifiers to select a national golf team that will be representing the country at the East African golf challenge that will be held at the par 71 Entebbe club.
Other golfers who failed to make the cut include Deco Mutebi, Denis Otim, Emmanuel Agwari, Titus Okwong and Jonathan Musinguzi.
