2014 Tororo Golf Open:
Overall Winner:
Gerald Kabuye (38, 38, 35, 38), Total Gross: 147
Scratch golfer, Gerald Kabuye easily over came a strong field of over 80 golfers to take the overall prize at the 2014 Tororo Cement Golf Tourney at the 9 hole picturesque course on Sunday.
Kabuye, a Uganda Golf Club member was playing off handicap 2 to return the best gross score of 149 (145 nett) over the 2 day tourney.
He birdied 3 holes on 9, 17 and 18 on the opening day before crowning the same the same number at the closing on holes 2, 7 and 8.
First time Winning appearance:
“Though this is my very first time on this course, I have enjoyed the course and I thank God for this victory”, an overjoyed Kabuye, who was lost for words as he received the overall trophy and 6 inch Hisense refrigerator, remarked at the 19th hole prizing giving at Tororo Club.
Kenyan golfer, Holland Mbonya , handicap 26 from Kakamega club scored 184 gross (132 nett) to take the overall nett winner’s gong.
Mbale club’s George Magombe(Handicap 11) scored 166 to lead group B while Tororo’s Gilbert Ojok (H/C 18) scored 192 gross to top group C.
Ladies:
The ladies’ category, which registered just 4 ladies, was taken by Lugazi’s Ritah Mukasine with a total gross score of 185 over 36 holes.
Tororo Cement recommitted their support towards the tourney with improved packages.
We shall keep supporting this event given the great organization from the Tororo Club members and executive”, Tororo Cement’s marketing manager, Deepak Senehani said.
Professionals:
Dennis Angugo carded an amazing score of 147 to top the other 14 professionals who included Kenyan top professional, Dismas Ndiza.
Anguyo had the lion’s share of the U.shs 5M kitty in cash money staked by the sponsors, Tororo Cement.
The towering professional carded 147 gross over the two days to beat 14 other pros that included Kenyan top golf icon, Dismas Ndiza who finished fifth with 153 gross.
Other pros who made the cut were Ian Odokonyero (150), Silver Opio (150), Sadi Atibu(151), Grace Ocici (153), Fred Wanzala and Brian Toolit (154 apiece).
Bag of Cement for Piga Mingi Winner:
Soroti Club’s new member, David Odeke, playing handicap 28 won himself a bag of cement having returned scores of 64, 67, 55 and 60 totaling 246 gross to take the piga mingi gong.
“This bag of cement will surely motivate me to cut my scores for improved performances”, Odeke told Kawowo Sports.
There were 85 golfers who took part in this two day tourney with a foreign contingent from Mumias, Kakamega, Eldoret and Kitale in Western Kenya.
Tororo Golf open is one of the many events on the Uganda Golf Union calendar exclusively sponsored by Tororo Cement Limited.
