Ronald Musagala will feature in the men’s 800m semifinals after a well-calculated run that saw him finish second in the first round heats on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old needed a late surge to secure a qualification time of 1:48.23 behind South African Andre Olivier in heat two at the Hampden Park.
And Musagala will need to finish among the best four in when he lines up in the semi-final heat two of the two-lap race on Wednesday night.
“My aim is to win a medal in Glasgow,” Musagala told Kawowo Sports before he left. “I just want to make the last three in the final,” he said.
Musagala will face off again with Olivier as well as 2012 World Junior champion and Botswana record holder Nijel Amos.
There will two more Africans Alberto Mamba (Mozambique) and Evan Kipkorir (Kenya) in the fray. Welshman Joe Thomas, England’s Micheal Rimmer and Bermuda’s Aaron Evans completes the list.
