Mauritania (0) Vs (2) Uganda – 8pm
Iceland based midfielder Tonny Mawejje has been reinstated in Cranes’ starting X1 against Mauritania in the 2015 Afcon qualifier pre-group stage match according the squad released by coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
Mawejje’s last start for the national team had come against Senegal in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers way back in September.
The ex-Masaka LC midfield gem missed the first leg in Kampala due to transfer issues and was only a second half substitute in the 1-0 home win over Madagascar in the previous round.
Gor Mahia FC dreadlocked midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and returning Aucho Khalid compliment Mawejje as the centre of the pack trio.
Micho has named an unchanged back four with skipper Andrew Mwesigwa partnering Isaac Isinde at the heart of defence whilst Denis Iguma and Godfrey Walusimbi start at right and left fullback respectively with Robert Odongkara as expected starting in goal in Denis Onyango’s absence.
Vipers FC midfielder cum striker Farouq Miya keeps his slot on the team and starts just behind lead striker Brian Umony in a number 10 role while William Luwagga Kizito completes the starting X1.
On paper, it appears a 4-3-3 when Cranes is in possession and a 4-5-1 as they look to win the midfield battle.
Game kicks off at 8.00pm Ugandan time and Cranes carry 2-0 goal lead thus need to avoid defeat to progress to group E which already has Ghana, Togo and Guinea.
