Mauritania 0 – 1 Uganda (Agg: Uganda 3 – 0 Mauritania)

Robert Ssentongo’s strike at the death has won the game for Uganda away to a 10 man Mauritania side in the AFCON qualifier played on Sunday.

This victory for Uganda means they have secured a slot in group E alongside Ghana, Togo and Guinea.

Uganda, who missed the services of goalie Denis Onyango, winger Moses Oloya and striker Geofrey Massa managed to recall midfield Iceland based midfielder, Tonny Mawejje who started the game alongside Gor Mahia midfielder, Geofrey Kizito and Tusker’s Aucho Khalid.

Robert Odongkara deputized Onyango in between the goal posts, with midfielder, Faruku Miya (who later limped out in the second half for Hamis Kiiza) maintaining his slot in the attack midfield role.

Brian Umony was prefered as a lone striker as Micho opted for a three man midfield of Tonny Mawejje, Baba Kizito and Khalid Aucho.

After a barren goal less draw, the game came to life in the second stanza as the hosts attacked in numbers.

The tide of the game however changed as Uganda’s head coach, Micho brought in tricky winger, Brian Mawejje in the place for Brian Umony.

A series of missed chances from Uganda towards the closing 15 minutes were a  reflection the visitors had a mission to bury off the game.
