National golfer Willy Deus Kitata, shot an impressive two over par 74 in his opening round of the Augsburg Classic in Germany yesterday as he makes his final round in Europe.

The Golfer of the year is playing in third tournament as he seeks to gain necessary experience to turn professional. The tournament is a Pro-Am tournament and he is the second African taking part on the PGA Germany tour the other is a Moroccan professional.

The organisers of the Augsburg Classic will take a cut of the top 40 players that is 1 over and the ties however the amateur will not be considered thus making Kitata and other amateurs miss out.

“It’s important for me to play here and gain the experience it will help me in the long run,” Kitaka said. “I believe this will make me a better golfer and I believe it will help me when I return back to Uganda.”

Kitata will be vying for honours in the Tusker Malt Uganda Open that tees off from September 1-6 at the Uganda Golf Club. He will also be considered by the Uganda Golf Union to join the national team that is in camp in Entebbe preparing for the East African golf challenge.
