Uganda Golf Union has gone for the tested and experienced when choosing the national team that will be playing in the East Africa Golf Challenge slated for 27-31 August at Entebbe Club.

The team of nine golfers was unveiled at Sheraton Hotel and includes national captain Phillip Kasozi, Robert Oluba, Adolf Muhumuza, Henry Lujja, Peter Ssendaula, national junior captain Ronald Otile, Ronald Bukenya, Ronald Rugumayo and Happy Robert, the team will be coached by Amos Kamya and the team manager is Maurice Ongwech.

The players who failed to make the cut include Lawrence Muhenda, Abraham Ainamani and Andrew Byaruhanga.

“We have choosen a side of experience and winners and we are confident of winning the challenge on our home soil,” Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the Uganda Golf Union president said at the launch were they also announced the sponsors of the tournament Uganda Breweries Limited.

“We are extremely excited with this tournament and we would like to thank the commitment that our sponsors Uganda Breweries have put into this tournament through it’s sponsorship.”

Uganda Breweries through it’s luxury whisky portfolio is the main sponsor off tournament and have committed 200 million shillings with defending champion’s Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia taking part.

“UBL has been associated with golf in the recent past, and we are proud to be involved in one of the biggest events on the East Africa calendar,” Themba Nobanda, Head of Spirits at Uganda Breweries said at the unveiling. “This tournament is one example of how to make our support of East African integration a reality. We are excited that Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia are all joining, giving the tournament even greater stature.”

The teams will arrive on Wednesday, Thursday will be a practice round with flag raising ceremony and the team manager’s meeting, Friday will be the singles games sponsors golf tournament, Saturday will be the foursomes and four ball better ball games then Sunday the final round of Singles and longest drive contest, prize giving then the following day the teams will depart.
