2014/15 Beach Soccer League:
Week One:
Total Goals: 57
Hat tricks: 3
Braces: 9
Single Goals: 30
A total of 57 goals including 3 sets of hat tricks were recorded as the 2014/15 Pepsi national beach soccer league kicked off at Lido Beach resort in Entebbe on Sunday.
The major highlights of the day were the individual brilliance for three players; Nicolas Kamya single handledly scored four times in Sand Pirates’ 5 – 3 demolition of Real Galacticos as Kira Young’s Brian Nkuubi and YMCA’s new signing, Ashadu Bugembe registered hat tricks.
Most Goals in a single fixture:
The KIU – Kayunga fixture recorded the most goals scored (14) with the most braces scored (6 apiece) where the former won 8 – 6 after extra time.
As the goals rained, the relatively small crowd that caught the action was being treated to classic entertainment from the Dj’s and the Pepsi cheer ladies at half and full time match intervals.
Defending Champions fail to turn up:
In what remains a mystery, possibly for the organizers was how, defending Champions, Kira Young failed to honor their opening fixture against last season’s runners up, Nkumba Select without any clear reason forwarded.
Elites from Makerere University also failed to play against 2012/13 champions, St Lawrence.
League debutant, Ddalumba was given a ‘baptism of fire’ welcome as they succumbed 3 – 4 at the hands of Braza Braza.
The league resumes with several match day two fixtures on the 7th September 2014.
