It was a weekend full of mixed feelings for foreign based Ugandan players as their respective clubs took part in different tier leagues around the globe.

ICELAND
The Urvalsdeild League went into week 16 and two Ugandan internationals featured at different pitches.

At Vestmannaeyjar stadium, Abel Dhaira showed up and kept a clean sheet when his IBV side defeated visiting Thor FC 2-0.
In the match attended by 486 fans, Jonathan Glenn opened his club’s account in the 81st minute before the Trinidad and Tobago born forward got a brace seven minutes later.

In the other match played at Reykjavik pitch, Tony Mawejje played full time in Valur’s 2-0 loss against Fylkir yesterday. Mawejje was featuring for the fifth time for Valur since being loaned from Norway.

The Ugandan midfielder was booked in the 90th minute after Asgeir Eythorsson and Oddur Gudmudsson had scored one each for the hosts. The latter scored from the spot on 72nd minute.

After conceding their eighth loss of the season, Vular now lies sixth on the table with 21 points, one point above IBV.

Stjarnan, which has a game in hand, leads the log with 36 points. The league resumes today with three games before Mawejje’s Valur meets Dhaira’s IBV on Sunday.

ALBANIA

The 2014-15 Albanian season kicked off over the weekend with five games.

Francis Ronald Olaki’s new team, FK Tirana opened their league fixture with a victory. Tirana beat Apolonia Fier 3-0 at the Selman Stermasi stadium on Sunday thanks to Burundian born attacker Yamin Ndikumana, Elis Bakaj and Renato Hyshmeri who netted the goals.

A 3 goal-different-advan­tage sees Tirana on top of the league table with three points. The league returns with five matches scheduled for this coming weekend.

PORTUGAL

In Portugal top league, Rio Ave humiliated Alex Kakuba’s Estoril 1-5 on Sunday, Kakuba for the second time missed Estoril’s game since joining the club in June.

Estoril who drew 1-1 in the opening fixture of the season last Monday, are 13th on table with one point.
They will face Sporting Braga come this Saturday at Axa stadium.
