25th October 2014
At Entebbe Golf Club

Uganda Golf Union (UGU), Entebbe Golf Club and Philly Lutaaya Cares (PLC), an NGO have organized a day long golf tourney meant to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS scourge.

About 150 individual golfers and several corporate companies are expected to grace the tournament slated for 25th October 2014 at the par 71 Entebbe golf course.

The tournament will coincide with the 25 years commemoration since Philly Lutaaya, a legendary musician passed on.

“There are three special tiers of sponsorship packages; Ug.shs 5, 3, and 2 Million for teams sponsor brands and advertising while 1M for teams’ advertising opportunities”, Oscar Ssemawere, the Entebbe club captain remarked at a special media briefing held at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala on Monday.

Tezra Lutaaya, a daughter to the legendary musician is the founder of Philly Lutaaya Cares. She reasons Golf presents the best option to fundraise and raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS problem.

“We target to address the issues of complacency, stigmatization, discrimination and alienation of HIV/AIDS Victims and orphans, which gravely affects the AIDS fight in Uganda”, Tezra remarked.

Proceeds will go to the construction of a vocational center in Kanoni Gomba, the ancestral home of the late Philly Lutaaya, who died in 1989.

Lutaaya left a legacy as being the first African public figure to openly declare his HIV status.

This year alone, over 3 fundraising campaigns have been held through the Golf sport by the Uganda Golf Union.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
