Uganda Golf ace, Deo Akope defied the flooded course conditions to maintain his leadership status at the summit of the 72nd edition of the Uganda Golf Open by the close of business on day 3.
Akope, who now leads by the aggregate 210 gross, played a course Par score 71, level as runners up Denis Anguyo (now on 211 over the 3 days).
“The weather has not been the best but golfers play under all conditions. Lets see what the final day has in stock”, he told Kawowo Sports after his par putt on hole 18.
Left hander, Richard Ainley returned the best overall score of the day – 1 under par 70 but lies 6th on the overall leader board.
The Kenyan duo of David Odhiambo and Dismas Ndiza also played a par course score of 71 and are jointly tied in 3rd place.
It was a day when the rains ruled with endless drizzles that flooded the fairways and greens. Play was halted at one moment for two hours till conditions got better.
Saturday is the 4th and final day of action where the top professionals who successfully made the cut will have a share of $ 40,000 (close to Ushs 102M).
The longest drive contest was held later after on Friday and day one amateur leader, Martin Ochaya winning it.
