Luzira based side Maroons FC start life in the Fufa Big league on Thursday October 2 when they host Wandegeya at Prisons Ground, Luzira.
Maroons agreed to play in the second tier division following a mutual agreement with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) that saw them miss out on playing in the Uganda Premier League after it opted to play in the Uganda Super League at a time when the country experienced two top division leagues run concurrently.
Placed in Rwenzori group, the Prisons side will pay a courtesy visit to Proline FC at Lugogo in their next fixture at Lugogo a week later before hosting VCC in their third game on Saturday 18 October at Luzira.
“We are ready for the campaign,” Maroons FC coach Asaph Mwebaze told Kawowo Sports. “Our target is to get promotion to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) and hopefully we start well,” he added.
Other fixtures in the Rwenzori group will see relegated side Masaka LC start campaign away against Kireka United, Proline FC visit Busia United while Synergy hosts V.C.C at Masaka Recreation Grounds.
In the Elgon group, Namasagali hosts The Saints, Ndejje will take on Baza Holdings, and Ngora Fredda Carr will be away to Padia while CRO will host JMC in Mbale.
The top team per group (Rwenzori and Elgon) qualifies automatically for next season’s top flight league – Uganda Premier League whilst the second and third rated teams per group are engaged in a play off to vie for the third slot.
Three teams will be demoted at the end of the 2014/15 regular season of the FUFA Big league to the respective regional leagues.
