W: Egypt 45-78 Uganda
Uganda’s Gazelles cruised past Egypt in the second meeting inside the MTN Arena. The Gazelles dominated from tip-off to the final buzzer as they played their way to near qualification.
Claire Lamunu poured in game high 24 points and picked 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Gazelles. Power Foward, Sharon Karungi duplicated the first leg meeting – netting 23 points and grabbed game high 13 rebounds.
The Gazelles assumed a double digit lead by mid first quarter and unlike the first game they never looked back. Peace Proscovia notched her second double-double for the Gazelle’s in as many games. The center scored 10 points to go with game high 14 rebounds.
Soraya Muhamed paced the Egyptians with 18 points. Sarah Ali contributed 6 points.
The Gazelles crashed Egypt on the glass 58-36 and for the first time in this year’s event shot over 50% from the line. The Gazelles connected on 25 of 36 foul shots thanks to the free-throws shooting practice they held this morning prior to the game.
The Gazelles have to beat Kenya on Sunday to seal a place at Afro-Basket.
