Uganda got off to a rocky start at the Africa Golf Confederation President’s Cup going on at the Ndola Golf Club, in Kitwe, Zambia this morning at the par 73, 18 hole course.
Uganda’s best three golfers on the opening round of match play are Adolf Muhumuza, who returned 7 over par 80 gross to lead the way for Uganda while the Uganda Open champion Willy Deus Kitata, shot 9 over par 82 to follow next.
Peter Ssendaula was 11 over par 84 gross while the Phillip Kasozi, the captain of the team was 12 over par 85 to give the nation a total of 246 and lies sixth out of the eight nations taking part.
Organisers of the tournament are considering the best three scores of the players on each team. “The conditions are not good cause the course is very dry so it is hard to play on such a course,” a Happy Robert a caddy for team Uganda stated. “I believe we can improve our scores tomorrow(Wednesday).
Zimbabwe leads the way on the opening day of action with 220 gross with hosts Zambia second with 225 gross, Kenya is third with 227 gross. Uganda’s team is accompanied by the Uganda Golf Union president Kiryowa Kiwanuka, his vice Johnson Omolo and the secretary of the Union Innocent Kihika.
The Uganda Golf Union has made it a priority for the national golf team taking part in all the major continental and international tournaments in the world.
