Oct. 23: Nepal v Uganda (Kinrara Ac. Oval) at 4:30AM

The Uganda Cricket Cranes will commence their campaign to earn a top-two finish to progress to the ICC World Cricket League Division II on Thursday, when they take on Nepal in the six-team division III showpiece set to take place in Malaysia.

The team comprising 14 players and four officials flew out to Dubai on Monday and arrived safely in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The side is relishing the test ahead of them and Coach Peter Kirsten is confident, his contingent will win the competition.

Nepal, who claimed the top honors by 5 wickets in the final against Uganda in the same division last year return, led by Veteran Skipper Paras Khadka who insists his outfit is hungry to lift the trophy again.

“We will do whatever it takes to defend the title and move to WCL Div. II. Everyone has been working hard so we want to convert this hard work into performance when it matters,” he told ICC Cricket media.

It’s been an amazing year and we want to finish on a high by winning the WCL Div. III title. We played our first global event and got T20I status, and this has given the team tremendous confidence and belief that we can do well.

Nepal heads for this encounter coming off an impressive year of International cricket, having finished third at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and competing on the World stage at the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh, where they beat Hong Kong and Afghanistan by 80 and 9 runs respectively.

The top two sides among the participating nations; Bermuda, Nepal, Uganda, USA, Singapore and hosts Malaysia will qualify for the 2015 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Namibia from 17 January 2015.
